When did you last chase a receipt? Approve an invoice you’d already approved somewhere else? Explain a bank transaction to your accountant, double-check that payroll went out, or dig up a VAT filing?

If you run a company in the Nordics, you probably know the ritual. Sunday evening, a folder of PDFs, an email from your accountant asking about a charge from March. A login to your accounting software, another to your bank, a third to check whether payroll actually went out. Forward, attach, explain, repeat.

None of that is accounting. It’s manual labour of carrying information between systems that don’t talk to each other. And our mission at Last Accounting Company is to make sure that you do not need to participate.

Why is accounting UX broken?

The traditional setup is not one product. It’s a firm plus a piece of software plus your bank plus the Tax Administration plus your invoicing tool, your payroll provider, and your expense app. The list goes on if you count all the individual data points living in email chains, Slack threads, or siloed HR, CRM, and ERP systems. Each has its own login, its own inbox, and its own idea of what happened in your business last month.

These systems were not built to communicate effectively. So there has to be an integration layer to chase receipts, forward invoices, answer “what is this transaction?” emails, and reconcile the different versions of the truth. Unfortunately, this layer is usually the founder or the CFO.

The industry’s answer for the past two decades has been to improve the software. But software alone just gave you a nicer inbox for the same chores. The accountant still sat outside your systems; you still ferried information between them. The user experience of accounting stayed the same.

What should it look like instead?

We built Last Accounting Company as a single end-to-end package, joining the accounting service and the software together with integrations into your systems, banks, and authorities.

The old way With Last Accounting Company
Chasing receipts and forwarding invoices Documents flow in automatically and match themselves to transactions
“What is this charge?” email chains, answered in business days Anything unclear is asked once in your messaging tools, and learned
Monthly close arrives weeks after the end of the month Books update as transactions arrive
Logging into a handful of systems to check payroll, VAT, invoices, and filings Payroll, VAT, receipts, and filings are automated and visible in one place
You run between systems as the integration layer Last Accounting Company is the layer

Behind the scenes, Björn Books, our AI accountant, does the manual work, and human accountants review the results.

For our customers, this adds up to full workdays of work that simply stop existing. Bookkeeping is up to date around the clock instead of 12 times per year, in a good year.

Where should the interface live?

Old-world accounting has two interfaces: a dashboard someone built years ago and email threads that move at the speed of business days.

Instead, you should be able to ask questions where you already work—Teams, Slack, or even WhatsApp—and get answers instantly from books that are current as of today, not last month.

Your financials are available over MCP, so you can use them directly with your AI tools. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your books and let it pull the numbers into a board memo, a forecast, or an investor update. No exports, no copy-paste, no waiting for someone to run a report. Everything comes from data validated by our system and accounting professionals, including humans.

Why should bookkeeping be more than a necessary evil?

Ask yourself who your accounting has been serving all these years. Traditional bookkeeping exists mainly to satisfy authorities: a backward-looking, deadline-driven chore whose output gets filed and forgotten. The single most relevant dataset about your company’s finances, maintained at real cost every month, leaves most of its potential on the table.

Always-current books change that. Runway, margins by customer, whether you can afford the next hire: these have always technically lived in your ledger, just locked behind stale data and someone else’s reporting cycle. When the data is current, the ledger becomes the shared source of truth for your company’s key financial knowledge. It starts working proactively for you: surfacing what changed, answering your questions, and informing every decision you make. Compliance still happens, of course. It is simply demoted from the whole point of accounting to a by-product of it.

Trying it takes five minutes

We also want to fix the switching cost, because in accounting the switching cost is the traditional system’s only moat.

To achieve this, we changed onboarding completely. Connecting takes no more than five minutes. Connect your bank and other tools, and we start building your books. You can be set up in a single sitting. You leave your old setup only when you trust our numbers and process more than the old ones.
